About us

Welcome to Telavi Old Cellar, where tradition, culture and modern methodologies harmoniously blend together, allowing for the creation of unique wines.”

The history of the cellar founded by us in 2011, is nurtured with respect for the vine and the heritage of Georgian winemaking. We purchased an old vineyard in 2010. Rkatsitli and Saperavi grapevines planted in 1970 on an area of 0.84 hectares were in an unfavorable condition, the vines were old, had lost their formation, and were quite sparse. Due to this situation, experienced winegrowers advised me to uproot the old vines and plant a new vineyard, But what others associated with the ruins of the past, I saw a great potential, nurtured by life experience.

Soon the vine revealed its true potential.

With years of dedication, tender care, and the support of natural rhythm, the vineyard was reborn.

As a reward, we received the best wine with an incomparable aroma, which was a kind of expression of gratitude from the vine itself.

As a sign of respect, this old vine is depicted on the label of “Archil’s Wine”.

After acquiring the old vineyard, I purchased neighboring plots of land and planted a vineyard of Saperavi and Kisi varieties. The grapes grown from these vineyards allowed us to create the best wine.

In addition to grapes grown from our own vineyards, we use Kakhetian Mtsvane and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from pre-selected vineyards for wine production. Before selection, we observe the specifics of grape care in order to ensure the desired quality.

The wine we have created is known as “Archil’s Wine”. It is made by combining old technologies typical of traditional Kakhetian winemaking with modern methods, and is entirely based on biologically and ecologically clean approaches. Each used bunch of grapes meets high standards, and each year we produce about 8,000 bottles of the best wine. Every stage of the process, from harvesting to delivery of the wine to the consumer, is done manually, which allows us to ensure maximum quality control.

Wine from Telavi Old Cellar always arouses admiration among both wine experts and wine lovers.

Archili's Wine -
The Story of an Old Vine

In 2010, we purchased a vineyard that was over 40 years old and was in poor condition. The vines were old, had lost their formation, and were quite sparse. Experienced specialists advised us to prune the old vines and plant a new vineyard, as older vines yield much less in terms of quantity.

But this decision was emotionally completely unacceptable to me, because each vine looked at us like an old man, as if asking for help. So we decided to make every effort and save the old vines. It was not easy – it was necessary to mobilize a lot of labor and financial resources. The support of the family and commitment to clearly defined goals gave us the strength not to give up and to see our idea through to the end.

As a result, we preserved and restored the old vineyard, which, as a token of gratitude, gave us wine full of amazing aromas. It’s true, that the harvest was small, but we got wine with a special aroma and unique taste qualities.

The Old Vine Wine has delighted many wine lovers. We considered this wine to be an expression of gratitude for the love that reigns between us and the Old Vine. In honor of this love, the Old Vine is symbolically depicted on the label of our wine.

The wine obtained from this vine, with its unique taste and the highest quality, allows us to embody the history of our vineyard in every drop of wine.

Many winegrowers advised me to uproot the old vineyard and plant a new one due to the unprofitability of the old, weakened, and twisted vines. These twisted vines were important and precious to me, as an old man with much life experience, so I decided to keep them. It took years and hard work to restore the vineyard step by step. As a result, this vineyard gave me the best wine – the old vine expressed its gratitude in this way. It is this old vine that is displayed as a sign of respect on the label of various wines under the name “Archil wine.”
